MEMBER FAQs
What does being a Co-op Member entail?
Having a Co-op membership means you own part of your local co-operative association. When you purchase a Beausejour Co-op membership for $10, you’re purchasing 10 common shares, which makes you a shareholder/owner. As a member/owner, you have the ability to participate in the democratic decision-making process at our AGM by asking questions, voting on resolutions and electing board members who represent the membership base. As a member, you may be eligible for equity & cash back. This is based on how the Co-op performs as well as your purchases with us.
How does Beausejour Co-op support our community?
Beausejour Co-op has been built on a foundation of community involvement and service. We run a strong, financially viable business that has the potential to return profits to members and invest in the local communities. Last year, we returned $2.6 Million back to our members and donated $66,000 to over 90 local organizations! Beyond this, we invest in our communities through services & assets and employ over 200 local team members.
How do I know when the in-store specials and deals are in the food stores?
Beausejour Co-op releases a new food store flyer every Thursday with deals and specials as well as, coupons you can redeem in-store. You can view the full food flyer and coupons on the Co-op App. We also encourage you to follow us on social media and sign up to receive weekly flyers, offers, news and information from Co‑op right to your email inbox.
How does equity work? What percentages of our purchases do we receive back?
Each year, Beausejour Co-op returns a portion of our profits back to members based on how well the Co-op performs and how much you shop with us. This is returned as equity and some may be in the form of cash.
The Board of Directors choose a percentage to pay out for each business line (eg. 5% on fuel purchases and 3% on grocery purchases). These percentages change every year and are based on the Co-op’s profits. Every July when we send out our Equity Statements, we include a newsletter that outlines these percentages.
We invite you to call our Administration Office at 204-268-1805 if you have any questions.
Why are your prices so expensive? Where is the value?
We offer value by taking a multi-faceted approach. Our private-label program delivers great value daily, while our Value Priced Everyday initiative ensures competitive regular pricing. Beausejour Co-op follows a centrally priced strategy to remain comparable to other Co-ops and like competitors. We also execute strong, relevant promotions to provide additional savings. Beyond pricing, we focus on exceptional customer service and quality through our in-store butchers, bakeries and convenient meal solutions. By addressing both cost and customer needs, we ensure our shoppers receive value that extends beyond just price.
Why doesn’t my Co-op number work at every Co-op?
Your Co-op number can't be used at every Co-op because each Co-op is a unique business that's locally owned and operated. A Co-op number represents membership in a specific Co-op association and can only be used at locations operated by that association. Beausejour Co-op is one of 150+ Co-op associations across Western Canada and operates the following locations:
Beausejour: Food Store, Pharmacy, Gas Bar, Bulk Petroleum & Cardlock, Agro Centre
Oakbank: Food Store, Pharmacy
Lac du Bonnet: Gas Bar
Pinawa: Gas Bar
Whitemouth: Cardlock
